Measuring For Curtains
Always measure the curtain track or pole width, not the window. If fitting a new track or pole, this should extend 15cm to 30cm either side of the window (to allow the curtains to be stacked back off the window) and 12cm to 15cm above the window recess.
If you have a rail with a centre overlap, measure the rail as shown below then measure the overlap and add the two measurements together.
Curtains are best hung either to the floor, to a sill or below the sill. We recommend that curtains finish either:
– 1cm above the floor
– 15-20cm below the sill (or 2cm above the radiator)
– 1cm above the sillAlways measure in at least 3 positions across the track or pole as floors and sills are rarely level. To avoid curtains dragging across the floor or sill we recommend you use the shortest of these 3 measurements.
Pencil, Deep Pencil, and Pinch Pleat Headings
When using a curtain track, measure from the top of the track to where the curtain is to finish.
When using a curtain pole, measure from the underside of the decorative ring to where you want the curtain to finish.Eyelet Heading
The 40mm eyelet will fit poles up to 35mm in diameter. The inner edge of the eyelet is set down 3cm from the top of the curtain. Measure from the top of the pole to where you want the curtains to finish and add 3cm.Wave Heading
Measure from the underside of the track to where you wish the curtain to finish.

Measuring For Blinds
Blinds may be fitted either inside or outside the window recess. When deciding whether to fit the blind the blind inside or outside the recess, consider the following points. It will be necessary to fit the blind outside the recess if:
– The recess is less than 7.5cm deep.
– The window opens inwards.
– The window is not straight (width or height varies by more than 2cm).Measuring blinds to fit inside the recess:
– Measure the width and the drop in 3 positions, noting any protrusions such as dado rails and tiles.
– Make a note of the smallest width and drop measurement to the nearest 0.5cm.
– Please choose ‘recess size’ when placing your order and we will make the necessary adjustments to allow the blind to fit the recess.Measuring blinds to fit outside the recess:
– Allow the blind to extend approximately 5-10cm above and below the window and 5-10cm either side.
– Make a note of the required width and drop in cm, to the nearest 0.5cm.
– Please choose ‘blind size’ when placing your order. This is the size that we will make the blind.Blinds in bay windows are usually fitted within the recess. Please follow the instructions below for angled and square (box) pay windows.
1. Drop
Measure the drop of each side of the bay window in at least two positions, and make a note of the smallest drop. This will be the drop of each blind. If you prefer all blinds to be level when lowered, please use the shortest measurement for all blinds.2. Width
Measure as follows to determine the width of each blind to the nearest 0.5cm. It may be easier to mark the positions on the sill in pencil.
Left hand blind – measure from A to B
Centre blind – measure from C to D (deduct 2cm for overlapping square bay)
Right hand blind – measure from E to F (deduct 2cm for overlapping square bay)For roman blinds cut rectangular sections of card measuring 10cm x 4.5cm (10cm x 7.5cm for wood blinds) and place these on the window sill in the positions shown in the diagrams below. This replicates the position of the ends of the headrail. If there are protrusions such as window handles, the pieces of card should be moved further away from the window to allow for clearance. Please make sure that you are using the correct diagram and check that the blind can be hung from this position at the top of the recess.
3. Ordering
Order each blind as RECESS SIZE and we will make the necessary adjustments for a perfect fit.
